Some families take a little while to warm up to the camera. Others arrive ready for an adventure. With the Taufa family, we had a bit of both!
Tevita and Katherine joined me at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha with their 11-year-old twins for their very first professional family photoshoot.
Mum and Dad were a little quiet and unsure about what to expect. The twins? Ready to go from the moment they arrived.
With bamboo, Japanese gardens, a peaceful lake and winding pathways, the gardens offered an ever-changing backdrop. We started with a bit of fun for the twins, getting everyone laughing and helping Mum and Dad settle into the morning. From there, it was a matter of keeping up!
One favourite photograph came when I asked the twins to stand side by side and give each other a big hug. The resulting burst of laughter gave me one of those genuine expressions I still love looking back on.
And then there was Tevita. He has one of those smiles that completely lights up his face. When he started laughing with Katherine, it created a beautiful moment between the two of them.
My favourite sequence, though, was the twins running towards the camera with enormous grins while Mum and Dad enjoyed a moment together in the background.
It captured their family dynamic perfectly: two relaxed parents, two bundles of energy and a whole lot of happiness.
By the end, the initial nerves had disappeared. You don’t need to know how to pose or have experience in front of a camera. Just turn up, be yourselves and let the moments unfold.
For The Love Of Family. Because the photographs that mean the most are often the ones where you’re simply being you.
