The story behind the photographs
Little feet, big smiles and a beautiful morning at Currumbin Beach
EnquiryThere’s something special about photographing a family right in the middle of those wonderful, slightly chaotic years when the kids are little and life is one big adventure.
For Ben and Bess, with three children aged nine, seven and five, a proper family photoshoot was long overdue. Apart from their engagement photographs, they hadn’t really had a professional shoot together. They wanted to capture this chapter while the kids were still young.
So, on a beautiful Sunday morning, we headed to Currumbin Beach on the Gold Coast. With its white sand, brilliant blue water, rocky coastline and iconic Elephant Rock, Currumbin gave us a variety of backdrops. The family’s red, ivory, pink and white outfits brought even more colour to the morning.
And the kids? They were ready to go!
Rather than asking three energetic little people to stand still, we started with Ben and Bess embracing while the kids ran, jumped and laughed around them. Then we turned things around, with the children racing towards the camera while Mum and Dad enjoyed a moment in the background.
There were quieter moments too, including Ben and his son stopping to look at the fish. And then there was our attempt at a family portrait on the sand dunes, with everyone running in from different directions: bodies everywhere and wonderfully natural smiles.
One of my favourite photographs is simply the five of them walking along the beach, the kids spread either side of Mum and Dad. Nothing complicated. Just a happy family enjoying being together.
When Ben saw the gallery, he told me the kids were grinning from ear to ear and they were already deciding which photographs to print for their home.
That’s For The Love Of Family: making the experience enjoyable for everyone and creating photographs of the years that pass all too quickly.
