When you have three young children aged three, four and seven, family life moves pretty quickly.

For this Brisbane family, the photoshoot was an opportunity to capture a moment in time while the kids are still little, full of personality and happiest when they’re exploring.

We met on a beautiful Saturday morning at Springwood Conservation Park. With winding paths, natural bushland and a boardwalk tucked away at the back of the reserve, it felt like we had our own outdoor studio.

The whole morning had a lovely, peaceful feel. With younger kids, though, peaceful doesn’t necessarily mean still!

We started gently with some photographs of the kids before wandering into the park together. Along the way were plenty of candid moments, cheeky grins from the youngest and natural photographs that happened while we were simply getting ready for the next shot.

One of my favourite parts of the morning was reaching the boardwalk. The whole family sat together surrounded by the bush, and for a few moments everything slowed down. It created some of the most peaceful photographs from the gallery.

We also made time for Mum and Dad to have a moment of their own. Family photography can easily become completely focused on the kids, so I love capturing photographs that celebrate the two people at the centre of the family as well.

Afterwards, I received one of the best pieces of feedback you can get when photographing young children: the kids said they had enjoyed themselves. Their mum explained that family photo time would normally have them refusing to smile.

That’s exactly the environment I want to create with For The Love Of Family: relaxed, enjoyable family photography where the kids can be themselves and the beautiful photographs happen along the way.
